Credit Today’s second annual Credit Scotland conference was launched to a packed audience at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh.
The event on 4 March brought together delegates from the entire spectrum of the credit industry – from those working in the money advice sector to insolvency practitioners and individuals at the highest possible level in the public sector.
A 120-strong crowd - an increase on last year’s numbers - saw Scottish minister for community safety Fergus Ewing and Accountant in Bankruptcy Rosemary Winter-Scott tackle the most controversial issues of the moment, as Scotland’s insolvency industry and court processes came under the spotlight.
The Home Owner and Debtor Protection Bill formed the basis of the conference opening, while high level creditors such as Scottish Power also took the stage throughout the day to discuss issues around consumer credit.
Representatives of Lloyds Banking Group and Royal Bank of Scotland were in attendance along with the Office of Fair Trading and a host of other industry figures who took part in several debates. These included question and answer sessions on hot topics including whether consumer protection has gone too far.
Credit Scotland is the only conference dedicated to addressing the credit industry in Scotland. Credit Scotland 2011 is due to be held on 3 March at the Balmoral along with a networking dinner.
